January 29, 2024 (Providence, RI) - Happy Victory Monday Pirates Fans! Your #10 Nationally Ranked Providence Pirates and the Bridgeport Kings went toe to toe for the first time this season in an afternoon matinee.

Providence has been on a roll to this point through the season with an outstanding 10-1 record with an 8 game winning streak. Looking to extend their winning streak to 9, the Bridgeport Kings came into town looking to end the Pirates recent success.

The first quarter was dominated by the Providence Pirates. The team scored 43 points giving the team a nice lead headed into the 2nd quarter where things didn't go their way. The Pirates had a hard time getting the offense rolling after the first quarter which allowed their lead to diminish to as low as 5 points. Everything was dropping for the Kings and they were getting the defensive stops necessary to get back into the game.

After seeing their once 25 point lead dwindle down to as low as 5 points, the ball started to roll back to the Pirates side and the team started to extend their lead back out to a 25 point lead.
Michael Mendes was a big contributor to the team's success in getting their lead back to double digits. Mendes had a triple-double going 20-20-10 on the night. Having 20 points and 20 rebounds is one thing, but following up that performance with also having 10 assists is fantastic to see out of Mendes. Michael was named the Pirates Player of the Game with his outstanding performance against the Kings!
Shane DeRosa also played a major role on the offensive side of the ball having 32 points and shooting 50% from beyond the arch. 24 of Shane’s 32 points came from the long ball.

Kevin Briggs also recorded his 7th double-double of the season having 19 and 14 against the Kings
Providence Pirates action resumes on the road versus the Bridgeport Kings on 2/3. Tip-off is set for 6:00PM.
